Design guidelines for best results

  • The laser burns the design into the leather, so other than the leather colour, it isn’t possible to have different colours in the finished design.
  • All submitted artwork needs to be black and white only — just two colours, not greys.
  • We offer a wide range of leather colours; they all react slightly differently to the laser. See details here.
  • Fine or very small detail will be lost. Bold is better. The engraving area is 34 mm across. Explore examples in our gallery here.
  • No ready‑to‑laser artwork? Try our online woggle designer — upload your own image or pick from our library.
  • Unsure if your artwork is suitable? Email info@burntstuff.com and we’ll check it.

Artwork checks

After you place an order, we review your artwork to ensure it will engrave well.

If we spot any issues, we’ll get in touch with suggested tweaks.

Preparing artwork in LightBurn

From image to perfect vector

Your artwork is loaded into LightBurn (the software that controls the laser).

We trace and convert it to vectors, so no detail is lost when resized to woggle size.

Laser power is then set based on your chosen leather.

Clicker press cutting the woggle

Selecting and cutting the leather

We choose a clean area from our leather stock and avoid natural imperfections where possible.

A sharp steel die and hydraulic clicker press (eight tonnes of pressure) punch the woggle shape and rivet holes cleanly.

Laser engraving setup

Engraving on the laser

The pre‑cut woggle sits in a custom MDF jig inside our dedicated 60 W laser, ensuring perfect placement.

LightBurn sends the job directly to the laser. Engraving takes around a minute. The machines' extractor removes smoke produced by the laser.

One‑off engraving process

Cleaning

We use a soft damp sponge to remove soot from the woggle surface; some leathers benefit from an isopropyl wipe.

Finished custom woggle

Finishing

Finally, we rivet the ends together using our own embossed metal rivets.

Your custom woggle is complete — bold, durable, and uniquely yours.
