Big Slot Braiding Disc / Trollen Wheel

These are the BIG SLOT versions of our popular Trollen / Braiding Wheels. The slots are 2mm wide and the centre hole is 12mm, ideal for thicker wool. The diameter of the wheel remains at around 80mm.

Using Braiding Wheels are a great way to make Friendship Bracelets.

Weaving using a wheel / disc is an old and widespread craft. It has existed in Europe for centuries. In East Asia, braiding discs have been used for hundreds of years to create intricately patterned cords, ropes and braids, which are an integral part of many traditional East Asian clothes. In Japan the art of wheel braiding is called ‘Kumihimo’, meaning 'gathered threads' and it has been used from the 8th century through to the modern day to make incredibly decorative weaves.

Our Braiding Discs are made from laser cut 3.6mm thick plywood. Note colour of wood may vary.

The discs are cut using a laser so some burnt residue might be left in the slots, this can be cleaned off using a piece of wool by running it through the slots.
